National Urban League Mourns the Passing of James Earl Jones

NEW YORK (September 9, 2024) – National Urban League President and CEO Marc H. Morial issued the following statement in response to the death of actor James Earl Jones:
“James Earl Jones was an inspirational artistic force. Through the incredible force of his determination, he overcame a childhood trauma-induced speech disability to become the literal voice of a generation. He used that inimitable voice to give life to the Black experience in America on both stage and screen. He brought gravitas and dignity to every role and set a standard for excellence that remains unmatched. The National Urban League mourns his passing and offers deepest condolences to his friends and family.”
