NATIONAL URBAN LEAGUE COMMENDS MEMBERS OF CONGRESS FOR PASSING MAJOR SPENDING PACKAGE AS IT HEADS TO PRESIDENT’S DESK

WASHINGTON, DC (August 16, 2022) – Today, Marc H. Morial, President and CEO of the National Urban League, made the following statement after President Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act into law:

“Today, we celebrate the Inflation Reduction Act being signed into law, a historic legislative achievement that will grow our nation’s economy, help working class families, and protect our environment. We thank the Biden Administration as well as House and Senate leadership for ensuring the bill’s swift passage.

“The Biden Administration made a promise to make government work for American families; and with each piece of the Build Back Better agenda, it is making good on that promise. The Inflation Reduction Act will lower the cost of prescription drugs, make investments in American manufacturing, create countless more jobs to build the next generation of clean power plants, cars, and buildings, and make key investments in climate and energy. It will also ensure corporations begin to pay their fair share in taxes.

“We look forward to working with the Administration as it implements this law, the already passed Infrastructure bill, and fights for other parts of the Build Back Better agenda. This includes ensuring we protect the 2.2 million Americans that fall into the Medicaid coverage gap, especially in non-Medicaid expansion states in the South where people of color are disproportionately impacted.”
