NATIONAL URBAN LEAGUE COMMENDS CONGRESS FOR PASSING RESPECT FOR MARRIAGE ACT

Washington, D.C. (December 9, 2022)  Today, Marc H. Morial, President and CEO of the National Urban League, released the following statement commending Congress for passing the Respect for Marriage Act:

“In the wake of the of the Dobbs v. Jackson decision, Congress has restored a measure of security to marriages and families by passing the Respect for Marriage Act. This bill reiterates that every American across the nation has the right to choose with whom they want to spend their lives.

The preamble to the Declaration of Independence says it best, “we hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.” These words that established our more perfect union more than 200 years ago express the very values that our nation holds dear: liberty, equality, and dignity for all. On behalf of our 92 affiliates and the Urban League movement, we will never stop fighting for equality for the LGBTQI+ community and commend Congress and the Biden-Harris administration for making this a top priority.”
