Greater Sacramento Urban League “Cuts to the Chase”

SACRAMENTO (Jan. 22, 2024) - Dream Girls hair salon in Elk Grove, California, has become a hub for Black women to prioritize their mental health. Gathering monthly at the salon, these women engage in discussions facilitated by licensed mental health professionals, addressing topics such as building healthy relationships and recognizing signs of depression. The salon environment provides a supportive space where hairstylists contribute to the conversation, emphasizing empowerment and uplifting Black women.

The Urban League’s Ronnie L. Cobb emphasizes the organization's commitment to providing tools and support for individuals willing to seek help and improve their mental well-being.

“We have the resources, certified therapists, and free counseling sessions,” he said. “If you come and you want to get help and do better, once you realize that’s what you need, we have the tools now to help you.”

The "Cut to the Chase" program initially targeted Black men's mental health in barbershops, and now, "The Crown Edition" extends this support to Black women. The program recognizes the importance of tailored initiatives that acknowledge and address the unique mental health needs within different segments of the Black community.
