Greater Milwaukee Urban League Gets $25K from AT&T

MILWAUKEE (Nov. 21, 2022) – As part of their nationwide commitment to overcoming the digital divide, AT&T has donated $25,000 each to the Greater Milwaukee Urban League (Milwaukee, WI) and the Hmong American Friendship Association.

The Urban League plans to use these funds to boost their educational programs, including their Technology Center. The GMUL Technology Center allows students to have access to high-speed internet, computer software programs, and access to devices. The Center also has workshops to help students with their homework, as well as helping them build new skills for their future.

Unfortunately, across the country, there are millions of students that are being affected by the digital divide, with no access to high-speed internet, or a computer, at home.

Paul Weirtz, State President of AT&T Wisconsin, said, “We believe all Americans, especially our youth, should be connected to the future, regardless of income or zip code. The AT&T Foundation is proud to support the efforts of these nonprofits to help close the digital divide for African American and Hmong youth in Milwaukee who need extra help to navigate and succeed in our digital world.”

President and CEO of the Urban League, Dr. Eve Hall, said, “We know too many of our young people face challenges having the digital resources they need to succeed in school and be prepared for their future. This grant from the AT&T Foundation will help boost our efforts to integrate digital literacy and academic skills development as part of our educational programming.”
