Grand Rapids Urban League Receives $750K Grant to Create Youth Center

 More youth programs are on the way to Grand Rapids, thanks to funding from Rep. Hillary Scholten (D - Grand Rapids).

Wednesday (March 27th), Scholten presented a $750,000 grant to the Grand Rapids Urban League (Grand Rapids, MI) to help create "A League Of Their Own," a children's center aiming to support West Michigan's youth.

Located on Eastern Avenue, the incoming youth center is anticipated to provide in-school and after-school job readiness training, college readiness training, and aims to be a safe place for children, according to Scholten's office.

"The youth center that will be made possible through Congresswoman Scholten's generous grant, as well as the head of our Grand Rapids Community Foundation, the youth of our community will receive the power to drive the innovation that improves their lives," Eric Brown, Chief Executive Officer at Grand Rapids Urban League, said.

Funding for "A League Of Their Own" was secured by Scholten through the Fiscal Year 2024 appropriations process.

In total, $11.5 million was secured for 15 West Michigan projects that addressed access to child care, affordable housing, infrastructure, the youth mental health crisis and more, according to Scholten's office.
