NATIONAL URBAN LEAGUE: DISMANTLING DEI IS A PLOT TO RESEGREGATE AND DIVIDE AMERICA ONE BILL AT A TIME
NEW YORK (November 25, 2024) -- National Urban League President and CEO Marc H. Morial issued the following statement in response to the U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Accountability’s passage of H.R. 8706, the Dismantle DEI Act of 2024:
“Last week, the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability passed a bill that would severely jeopardize the critical progress made since the era of Jim Crow.
"If signed into law, H.R. 8706, the Dismantle DEI Act of 2024, would eliminate all federal funding, programs, and offices related to diversity, equity, and inclusion governmentwide. It requires the termination of all federal employees working in DEI offices, and prohibits reassignment to other offices or agencies, threatening the livelihood of so many public servants and their families.
"Make no mistake—dismantling DEI will dismantle our communities.
"That is why I sent a letter to House Committee on Oversight and Accountability leadership urging their opposition to this dangerously sloppy bill, and will continue to fight back against these treacherous threats.”
