Black Unemployment Soars Amid Administration's War on Racial Equity

NEW YORK (August 1, 2025) - As the Trump administration continues its assault on diversity and racial equity policies, Black unemployment has spiked to its highest level in four years.
“Black workers are being pushed out of the workplace and denied opportunities as a result of the administration’s hostile and discriminatory policies,” National Urban League President and CEO Marc H. Morial said. “Cowering under pressure from the White House, employers who abandon diversity, equity, and inclusion policies are denying themselves access to a rich pool of talent and innovation and harming their own performance.”
The Black unemployment rate in July was 7.2%, a level not seen since October of 2021, and an increase of 18% since the last full month of the Biden administration, and nearly twice the white unemployment rate of 3.7%.
“The entire U.S. economy is being hampered by the administration’s misguided attitude toward diversity and inclusion, combined with its chaotic approach to tariffs,” Morial said. “The administration must correct course before the ship of state runs aground.”
