Dr. Janis Kupersmidt

Dr. Janis Kupersmidt is the President and Senior Research Scientist at innovation Research & Training, a behavioral sciences research company in Durham, NC. She has devoted her career to conducting research on how professionals, educators, parents, and volunteers can best support youth experiencing economic hardship as well as chronic and acute stressors. She has co-authored one edited book and over 100 chapters and peer-reviewed articles on topics related to mentoring, prevention, and peer relations. Dr. Kupersmidt has made research contributions to the field of mentoring by studying effective mentoring program practices as well as developing and evaluating resources for mentoring programs to use to enhance their practices. She also co-authored the Third and Fourth editions of the Elements of Effective Practice for Mentoring (EEPM), (2009, 2015; MENTOR/National Mentoring Partnership) as well as several supplements to the EEPM for STEM, workplace, group, peer, and e-mentoring. Dr. Kupersmidt has had the honor of serving as a technical assistance and capacity building provider to the National Urban League’s Project Ready: Mentor since its beginning and been able to contribute to the growth and success of the movement.
