Shayla Moon

Senior Director, Housing & Economic Policy, Washington Bureau

Shayla Moon, a native of Denver, CO, and Los Angeles, CA, serves as the Senior Director of Economic and Housing Policy. Before joining the National Urban League, she served as the Senior Legislative and Intergovernmental Affairs Specialist at the Department of Commerce/Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA). Her other professional roles include serving as Deputy Field Director for former U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA) and as a lobbyist for several trade associations and nonprofit organizations. She began her nonprofit & policy career working for The National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) alongside Dr. Dorothy I. Height. Her public policy career has included efforts in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina with City Year Inc., issue advocacy on Nuclear Arms Reduction (New START Treaty), Ratification of the U.N. CEDAW Treaty, as well as content theft, and diversity policy for the Motion Picture Association of America/Creative Future.

Shayla is an honorably discharged United States Air Force veteran. She received her B.A. from Bennett College for Women and an M.A. from Howard University. She is actively involved with several civil rights and women's organizations and serves on the board "Friends of The Blair-Caldwell African American Research Library. She enjoys spending time with her son and dog, gaming, skiing, collecting sneakers, as well as classic jazz and hip-hop records in her spare time.
