A well-Rounded Approach, Career Coaching and Training

When Sarah P. came to the Urban League of Greater Oklahoma City, she was in dire need of employment. Unemployed, receiving SNAP benefits, and living in section 8, Sandra came to the Urban League after hearing a local radio commercial about the affiliate’s services. When she walked in the door, she was quickly enrolled in the affiliate’s employment and training program.

Sarah was given access to one-on-one career coaching, resume assistance, financial planning, online job search, hiring events, and supportive services. After meeting with a career coach, Sandra was encouraged to attend a Sodexo Hiring Event, as the company had several immediate openings for food service workers in a local K-12 school. We are proud to report that Sandra left the event with a job.

Not only did she obtain employment, she gained confidence and motivation. Sarah is looking forward to training opportunities that will lead to a career path with advancements. While Sarah is still unsure of her career path, she will continue to receive follow up and supportive services through the Urban League as she moves forward in her career planning.

Sarah says, “I had been unemployed for three years and having trouble finding work, but with the help of the Urban League, I have a new job I enjoy and can care for my children.”
