The Greater Washington Urban League's Work to Cease Smoking
On April 27, 2017 Audrey Epperson, Director of Community Resources at the Greater Washington Urban League (GWUL), presented Pathways to Freedom to 53 men and women who were attending an employment orientation with Clark Construction at the GWUL offices. Two representatives from Clark Construction and CRC, a sub-contractor for metro rail construction, joined Ms. Epperson during the presentation.
As part of the CVS Health supported Empowered to Quit Program, Pathways to Freedom is an educational workshop that raises awareness on the health risks of smoking, including second and third-hand smoke; offers strategies for smoking cessation; and encourages community organizing to address the predatory marketing tactics used by tobacco companies. At the end of the Pathways to Freedom workshop participants are encouraged to enroll in the Courage to Quit tobacco cessation program offered at the Greater Washington Urban League.
