Foreclosure Prevention in Birmingham, AL
Ms. Willow, 47, reached out to the Birmingham Urban League’s Housing Department seeking assistance with foreclosure prevention to save her home.
Ms. Willow has two children (a 13-year-old daughter and a 15-year-old son). She lost her job due to COVID-19 in the summer of 2020, shortly after purchasing her home. For the first year and a half, she used her savings and 401k to make her mortgage payments. Ms. Willow found employment in October 2022, but her hours were reduced after a year.
ResultThe Birmingham Urban League’s Housing Counselor worked with Ms. Willow to complete a comprehensive needs assessment to determine the most suitable foreclosure prevention program for her mortgage payments. They also discussed her budget and ways to reduce her expenses.
The counselor contacted Ms. Willow’s mortgage company on her behalf to discuss a plan that fits her budget. Thanks to the help of the Birmingham Urban League’s Housing Counselor, Ms. Willow received a reduction of her monthly mortgage payment in the amount of $259.17. Her old payment was $1,875.00, and her new payment will be $1,615.83. Ms. Willow will be able to make her mortgage payments moving forward and has successfully avoided foreclosure.
