Ron DeSantis, calling the choice to honor him an affront to Black Philadelphians that flies in the face of the organization’s own professed goal of inspiring more educated, engaged, and responsible citizens.

Washington, D.C (Jan. 23, 2023) - For the second consecutive year, the Washington Wizards are hosting an essay contest for high school students. Partnering with the Greater Washington Urban League (Washington, D.C.), the contest honors Dr. Edwin Bancroft (E.B) Henderson, a sports historian, educator, administrator, coach, athlete, and civil rights activist known as the 'Grandfather of Black Basketball' in Washington, D.C.

NASHVILLE (Jan. 23, 2023) – The Urban League of Middle Tennessee (Nashville, TN) is celebrating 55 years of service.

On Tuesday, February 7, the Urban League will be hosting their 55th Annual Equal Opportunity Luncheon at the Music City Center.

This year’s theme is “Closing the Disparities,” which will have the Urban League focus on ways to close the inequity gap that communities of color face. This year there will be a panel discussion on how underserved communities can achieve social, economic, and civil equity.

ST. LOUIS (Jan. 23, 2023) – To honor the great Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis (St. Louis, MO) partnered with the St. Louis Area Foodbank to give out food to needy families.

President and CEO of the Urban League, Michael McMillan, said, “This, so we can live the type of dream that Dr. King would have wanted us with helping our neighbors in need.”

Over 2,000 families received eggs, canned goods, meat, dairy, toiletries, and various other items at the event.

CHATTANOOGA (Jan. 23, 2023) – In honor of Martin Luther King Day, the Urban League of Chattanooga (Chattanooga, TN) hosted their Youth Symposium at the Bessie Smith Cultural Center.

The event, in its third year, seeks to highlight youth leaders as part of the Urban League’s National Achievers Society.

There were students from nine different area schools, also helped plan and host the event.

The students participated in a debate covering economic, racial, and environmental justice issues after hearing of all of Dr. King’s accomplishments.

SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS and NEW YORK (January 19, 2023) – National and local Urban League leaders today welcomed the intervention of national civil rights attorneys Ben Crump and Bob Hilliard in the case of a Springfield man who died at the hands of negligent paramedics and called for reforms to address racism in the delivery of emergency and medical services.
