ROCHESTER (June 12, 2023) – The Urban League of Rochester (Rochester, NY) rolled out the red carpet for hundreds of students at a recent event.

Last Monday, June 5th, the Urban League celebrated the excellence of area Black students, as they held their Annual Black Scholars Ceremony, in its 44th year.

The event honored hundreds of Black high school seniors, all earning a “B” average or higher, awarding them the distinction of being chosen as an Urban League Black Scholar.

Morial delivered his first “State of the Urban League” keynote address at the Conference in Pittsburgh, laying out a bold, 5-point Empowerment Agenda that would come to define the next two decades of civil rights leadership.

Twenty years later, these five points stand enshrined as the National Urban League’s five pillars: Jobs and Economic Empowerment, Education and Youth Development, Health and Quality of Life, Housing and Community Development, Justice and Civic Engagement.

CHICAGO (June 5, 2023) – According to the Chicago Urban League (Chicago, IL), there is a lot of work to be done in Chicago.

The Urban League recently released their “State of Black Chicago,” which reports a frightening view of the city if inequity isn’t addressed within the city.

The report highlights how the city has lost about 85,000 Black residents over the last ten plus years. Most moved to suburbs for better housing, better education, and safety concerns.

With so many leaving the city, issues remain for the residents who remain.

Black residents of Chicago are doing worse than their white counterparts in areas such as household income, home ownership, and health.
