Lawsuit Challenging Virginia Governor’s Arbitrary Denial Of The Right To Vote Is A Step Toward Justice

Marc H. Morial
President and CEO
National Urban League

“The right to vote is the cornerstone of our democracy and should be accessible to every eligible resident. It has been proven that participating in the civic process reduces recidivism, and individuals take pride in their communities when they can fully contribute to Virginia. True democracy does not deprive individuals of participation based on the whim of one individual. It's time to correct the wrongs of our 1902 Constitution and leave the power to one succinct process that cannot be modified by a single person's emotions in the moment.”  -- Sheba Williams, Executive Director, Nolef Turns

The Urban League of Louisiana Takes on Digital Divide

NEW ORLEANS (Oct. 16, 2023) – The Urban League of Louisiana (New Orleans, LA) has partnered with AT&T to take on the digital divide.

They recently announced the opening of the Connected Learning Center, which will offer internet access and other educational resources for residents that are not able to connect to the internet.

The hope for these centers is for the students and their families to use the technical and educational resources that they provide. According to the Urban League, “more than 1,800 K-12 students don’t have access to the internet or computers at home to benefit from the online world, and nearly 22 million seniors nationwide lack internet connection at home – an issue known as the digital divide.”
