Calling Efforts to Overturn Roe "Part of a Larger Anti-Civil Rights and Anti-Women's Rights Movement," Urban League Leaders Urge Passage of Federal Women's Health Protection Act

NEW YORK (May 10, 2022) – Citing a particular danger to Black women, National Urban League President and CEO Marc H. Morial and more than 60 other Urban League leaders from around the country have co-signed a letter to every member of the U.S. Senate urging passage of the Women’s Health Protection Act, which codifies the right to abortion into federal law.

Urban League Twin Cities Report Show Continued Racial Disparities

MINNEAPOLIS – In their two new reports, State of Black Minnesota and the Minnesota Equity in Action Framework, the Urban League Twin Cities (Minneapolis, MN) sought to examine the life and times of Black people living in Minnesota.

According to their State of Black Minnesota report, while they found “significant and encouraging change in 2021,” progress still needs to be made. “Confounding continuation of historical inequities” over key metrics such as criminal justice, education disparities, business, arts and culture, health and wellness continue.

Urban League of Central Carolinas Hosts Mother Day’s Event

CHARLOTTE – This past Saturday, May 7th, the Urban League of Central Carolinas (Charlotte, North Carolina) provided one hundred women from their workforce development program a Mother’s Day event. The invited women were treated to a luxury experience, including photoshoots, styling, and makeup.

The event was in partnership with GEICO and Heart of cabi.

Heart of cabi stylists helped women find clothing choices for prospective job interviews. GEICO, for its part, helped by giving away donated cars through its Recycled Rides program.

National Urban League & PepsiCo Joint Initiative Celebrates Milestone

Originally Published: May 9, 2022 NEW ORLEANS – A joint initiative between the National Urban League (NUL) and the PepsiCo Foundation just celebrated a huge milestone on its way to complete its mission.

On Monday, May 2nd, the Black Restaurant Accelerator (BRA), celebrated its first 100 grant recipients with the soft opening of a new restaurant, the Vaucresson Creole Café and Deli, in New Orleans. Marc Morial, President and CEO of the National Urban League, (as well as former New Orleans mayor) was there to commemorate the event and to speak about the import of Black-owned businesses.
