The First Tee of Central MS and MS Urban League Announce Partnership
The Mississippi Urban League (Jackson, MS), Inc. and First Tee of Central Mississippi are partnering with 100 Black Men of Jackson to expose inner city youth to the sport of golf.
Each year, the Mississippi Urban League, an affiliate of the National Urban League, develops a summer program designed to insure children are provided with healthy meals, academic and cultural enrichment activities, activities that promote health and wellness and a safe, secure environment in which to spend their out-of-school time. The program serves children and youth between the ages of 8 and 17 years old.

On June 15, the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis (St. Louis, MO) honored 16 distinguished women in leadership before an audience of over 1,000 at a black-tie reception, dinner and concert at the Salute to Women in Leadership Gala at the Marriott St. Louis Grand Hotel. World Wide Technology, Wells Fargo and Centene Corporation served as the title sponsors at the event which showered the honorees with several amazing awards, gifts and accolades.

Basketball Celebration Nets $7,500 for Five Area Nonprofits
A basketball event that celebrated the restoration of the court at the Greenleaf Community Center — just in time for summer pick-up games — netted $7,500 in donations for five area nonprofits.
Roughly 50 area residents attended the festivities, which included a demonstration by a comedic basketball troupe called the Court Jesters. Several dozen adults and children took part in the Helping Hoops Challenge. As part of this game that benefitted nonprofits, participants took shots at the basket from three designated points on the court—one that was “kid-friendly” for younger children.
Urban League Aims to Raise $20 Million for West Louisville Sports Complex by September
Track and Field will be the focus of the upcoming Sports and Learning Complex in West Louisville.
Development plans are moving forward at 30th and Muhammad Ali Boulevard, with the Louisville Urban League launching Phase II of the fundraising campaign on Thursday. The complex, which will sit on a 24-acre lot, will feature both an indoor and outdoor track, encouraging people all over the city to utilize the space to grow their skills.
“I live across the street from there now and it’s concrete and weeds,” neighbor Beverly Turner said. “So we’re looking forward to what it will become and what it will do for our neighborhood.”
