
Sherry Ann Newton
Educator/Government Affairs and Community Engagement Strategist
Sherry Ann Newton is an accomplished elementary school reading specialist with over 20 years of experience in community engagement and public policy focused on education, health, and human services. Currently, she serves as an Academic Reading Interventionist and Parent Outreach Coordinator at Coleman A. Young Elementary School in Detroit, where she collaborates with teachers, students, and parents to improve academic achievement through targeted interventions.Previously based in Washington, D.C., Sherry held leadership roles, including President of NEWTON DILLARD, INC., where she managed grants and strategic planning for clients in education and workforce training. She also served as Associate Vice President at Van Scoyoc Associates, advocating for federal education and housing policies.
Her expertise includes advising senior Congressional and Administration officials on legislative agendas and managing federal initiatives at the National Urban League and the United Negro College Fund. Sherry holds a Master of Arts in Teaching and a Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration from Wayne State University, where she is pursuing a PhD in Curriculum and Critical Social Inquiry.
Sherry enjoys traveling to Timber Nwanta Village in Ghana, working with the Literacy Empowerment Action Project (LEAP) Foundation to enhance literacy through teacher and parent training, fostering a culture of learning within the community.
