The 12th Annual Project Ready Case Competition
Project Public Safety: Restoring & Transforming Communities of Color
Every year, this Case Competition provides Project Ready sites with the unique opportunity to engage their youth in an important Project Based Learning (PBL) activity. Working together for an extended period of time, teams gain knowledge and skill by investigating real-world problems and community issues and then strategically developing real-life based solutions.
The 2021 Challenge
We heard from engaged and empowered Project Ready students from across the Urban League movement: they each identified a public safety issue that requires police reform within their city or state and proposed a solution that would improve outcomes in the related area using a restorative justice approach.
This year, the submissions from our youth have without a doubt raised the level of the competition to new heights! Two student teams rose above the rest and are thrilled to have each secured the coveted title of 2021 Project Ready Case Competition finalist.
The 2021 finalists from the Chicago Urban League & New York Urban League will have the opportunity to compete at the National Urban League’s Virtual Youth Leadership Summit—in front of our excellent panel of judges!
Finalist Guidelines
Each team developed a 5-to-7-minute video presentation which will be showcased during the Case Competition segment of the Youth Leadership Summit. Additionally, they will have 2-3 minutes to explain why they chose their issue and how they landed on their solution. Afterward, they will be engaged in a Q&A session in which our esteemed judges will ask them questions directly about the feasibility and implementation of their solution, including, but not limited to,
How does the solution impact social change, police reform, and rebuilding community trust?
How does it use restorative justice practices?
