Black Wellness, Awareness and Access – A Reckoning for Systemic Racism in Health Care
As America's health care system recovers from the devastation brought about by the COVID pandemic, there will be an overdue reckoning for the nation's history of race-based bias and the neglect of black wellness. The weeks and months to come will be a critical test of the system's capacity (and willingness) to achieve equitable service delivery and access standard. A panel of medical and care delivery experts explores the structural failings behind COVID's disproportionate impact on the communities of color and the ways historical mistrust and miscommunication affected the vaccine rollout. Then, looking forward, the panelists offer concrete strategies to ensure that African Americans are no longer marginalized or left behind in developing and implementing future health care policies.
