Urban League of Louisiana Unveils Automotive Technician Program

BATON ROUGE (March 27, 2023) – Last week, on Thursday, March 23rd, the Urban League of Louisiana (New Orleans, LA) was joined by the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) and the National Urban League as they announced the pilot automotive apprenticeship program.

The announcement took place at the Baton Rouge Community College McKay Automotive Training Center.

The program provides Baton Rouge and New Orleans residents with a month long training, which has 23 prospective technicians hired into apprenticeship roles in area car dealerships, made possible with help from the NADA Foundation and the Louisiana Auto Dealers Association.

Judy Reese Morse, President and CEO of the Urban League, said, “The Urban League of Louisiana is celebrating 85 years of removing barriers and creating pathways for African American and other underserved communities in Louisiana. This apprenticeship program is another example of the leadership and work we are proud to do for underserved communities in partnership with incredible business, government education and civic leaders. This is how we are working together to strengthen our economy and help to grow wealth in Louisiana.”
