Urban League Honors Local Journalists

ST. LOUIS, MO – The Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis (St. Louis, MO) honored twelve black journalists with merit awards.
On Saturday, March 5th, the Urban League held the 2022 Outstanding Merit Awards, honoring journalists for their work. Among the honorees were St Louis American News Editor Alvin A. Reid, the Americans Deaconness Fellow Sylvester Brown Jr., Maurice Drummond of KMOV Channel 4, Ruth Ezell of KETC Channel 9, Robin Boyce and Tim Lampley of STL TV, Ty Hawkins, Kim Hudson and Shirley Washington of KTVI Channel 2, Art Holliday and Robert Townsend of KSDK, and Kevin Johnson of The St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
It was also announced that the President and CEO of the St. Louis affiliate, Michael P. McMillan, will also have a street named after for all he has done for the St. Louis community. Michael P. McMillan Way will begin at the corner of Aubert Avenue and Page Boulevard, running north on Aubert to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive.
When closing the event, McMillan pointed out the importance of the press, calling Black journalism in St. Louis as essential.
“We are doing as much as we can for as many as we can. For as long as we can, because St. Louis needs that, and we wouldn’t be able to do it without you,” he said.
