Buffalo’s minority entrepreneurs are getting some help.

Local organizations are sponsoring two initiatives through the University of Buffalo School of Management’s Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership (CEL). These initiatives are geared to empower are minority and women entrepreneurs and to help them achieve more.

One of the initiatives, sponsored by M&T Bank with $50,000 in funding, will be the M&T Bank Minority and Women Emerging Entrepreneurs (MWEE) program, which has each participant be assigned a mentor that will help devise realistic business goals and strategies to help achieve them. The MWEE has been helping small businesses since 2004.

The CEL is also partnering with the Buffalo Urban League on a nine-month training program for minority and women entrepreneurs that will focus on the pre-launch phase of starting a business called the Emerging Entrepreneurship Accelerator. Participants in the accelerator will go to training sessions on various topics on how to start and sustain a successful business, with the Buffalo Urban League connecting them to experienced coaches.
