National Urban League and DoorDash Unveil Online Learning Platform GoalUp.org
Portal is a Component of “Dasher Empowerment Partnership” Aimed at Expanding Opportunity for Dashers from Underserved Communities to Attain New Job Skills and Build Generational Wealth
NEW YORK (September 29, 2021) – The National Urban League and DoorDash today unveiled GoalUp.org, an on-line learning platform where Dashers and Urban League clients can receive fundamental financial empowerment education.
The announcement of the latest milestone of the organizations’ Financial Empowerment Partnership kicked off the Career & Professional Development Day of the National Urban League’s Virtual Conference, which began yesterday.
“The dramatic changes in our society and our economy over the last year have underscored the urgent need not only to expand economic opportunity in underserved communities but also to make the necessary tools for that expansion accessible online,” National Urban League President and CEO Marc H. Morial said. “Not only do we need to re-imagine work in a re-emergent America, but we also need to prepare our children and workforce to engage with an increasingly digital world. GoalUp is an ideal response for meeting both of these critical challenges.
“We’re proud to partner with DoorDash on this innovative and forward-thinking initiative,” Morial said.
“DoorDash’s work to promote financial literacy in partnership with the National Urban League is rooted in our mission to empower local economies,” said Elizabeth Jarvis-Shean, Vice President of Communications and Policy, DoorDash. “With the launch of GoalUp.org, Dashers and Urban League clients alike will now be able to access resources on credit, homeownership, and other topics that will help them use their earnings to help secure their financial futures. DoorDash is committed to helping underserved communities build generational wealth through earnings opportunities and initiatives like GoalUp.”
GoalUp.org combines the National Urban League’s proven educational methods and models and features trusted content from the League’s long-time partners to provide easily accessible and on-demand learning for people of all ages and baseline knowledge.
The two organizations announced the multi-year Financial Empowerment Partnership in December, as part of DoorDash’s Main Street Strong pledge. The creation of the GoalUp portal is the result of months of collaboration on the best practices for financial empowerment through fundamentals such as credit, savings, and retirement planning. The partnership plans to expand the platform’s offerings to include entrepreneurship, asset building, and workforce training.
“Our hope is to be able to scale our current financial empowerment programming to reach Americans regardless of whether an affiliate is in their local neighborhood or not,” Morial said. “Eventually, we will be able to connect participants to our professional affiliates as we continue to increase our digital footprint and bring 21st century solutions to 21st century challenges.”
