Urban League Client Honored as Greater Houston Black Chamber Pinnacle Awards Finalists
On Thursday, August 29, 2019, the Greater Houston Black Chamber (GHBC) announced the finalists for the 25th Pinnacle Awards. This year, GHBC named Richard Andrews, Urban League client and founder of the Foundation for Black Heritage and Culture and the Houston Black Heritage Music & Arts Festival (HBHMAF), one of ten Pinnacle Award finalists based on his outstanding secular accomplishments, along with the incredible work he’s doing within the community. The GHBC presents the Pinnacle Awards in recognition of business achievements and community service by African American-owned businesses.
Richard Andrews is an alum of the Houston Area Urban League’s Small Business University (HAUL) program. In 2013, he came to HAUL seeking more knowledge on how to start a not for profit business. Through business education and mentorship opportunities, Mr. Andrews credits the Urban League for providing him with the resources he needed to develop a business model and strategy needed to launch his company.
The Houston Black Heritage Music & Arts Festival (HBHMAF) is now held annually at collective locations in or near Downtown Houston. HBHMAF is a cultural experience that promotes diversity and cultural sensitivity, filled with performances by both local and world-renown musical artists, visual art exhibits, guest speakers, presentations, poets, craftspeople, and more!
The Houston Area Urban League Entrepreneurship Center and GHBC have forged a shared commitment to starting and growing African American-owned businesses in the Houston area. For starters, every graduate of the Small Business University (SBU) has received a one-year complimentary membership in the Chamber. It’s been amazing to watch our clients go from the pre-venture start-up stage to productive GHBC members. This year, the organizations plan to collaborate for the 9th Annual Small Business Exchange.
