Seasoned and Certified

Before starting the Urban Tech Jobs Program, Donna Morgan was at home for 10 years combating disability, forced retirement, and the passing of her son. She was afraid her age and physical conditions would hold her back from a career in the information technology industry. But she quickly realized that the program taught her to take a step back and see things from a different perspective.

While in training, Donna was quickly recognized as a “superstar” by her peers and instructor. Brilliant, enthusiastic and loyal, she studied diligently and regularly tutored other students. Upon completing training and earning two Industry Recognized Credentials (CompTIA Fundamentals and CompTIA A+), Donna was enrolled into an externship with JobWorks.  Her externship duties included virtually assisting the Information Technology instructor to tutor students in the Philadelphia TechWorks classes, as well as updating the Salesforce Customer Relationship Management (CRM) database. Donna did so well that she was offered employment with JobWorks. She’s now instructing the CompTIA Fundamentals/CompTIA A+ classes held at the Indianapolis Urban League.

Donna feels that through her participation in the program she has become more confident, regained her independence, and renewed sense of motivation. She even took the initiative to get certified as a Microsoft Office Specialist to make her more versatile. Looking towards the future, Donna would like to take her new talents and skills to senior living communities to ensure computer literacy for all residents.
