How the Urban Tech Jobs Program Gave One Man a Fresh Start
When Reza M. came into the Urban League of Broward County in 2017, he was struggling to land employment. The 42 year-old with an associate's degree in Computer Network Engineering needed a path into his field and a credential that would separate him from other applicants. The Urban League signed him up for the Urban Tech Jobs Program and enrolled him in the CompTIA course, offered by PC Professor, and to take certification exam, for the TABE.
He committed to attending classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9am to 5pm for a period of four months. During his courses, the Urban League helped Reza prepare for an interview to intern with Zen Tek Data Systems. After completing the eight-week internship, he satisfied the 160 hour requirement for the CompTIA course and on June 19, 2017 he passed the certification exam.
Reza is now gainfully employed an as IT technician and plans to take his CompTIA 902 for a full certification. Reza has also offered to hold peer reviews to help other participants successful pass their exam, and in an open forum at our 5th Anniversary celebration he extended his gratitude to the Urban Tech Jobs Program team for their support. Now that Reza is employed, he has plans to work with his financial coach to reduce debt and improve his credit score.
