Helping a Mom Fight for Success
Perseverance is the greatest road to redemption. That story rang true for 27-year old Jamilah, who lost her job and custody of her son after being incarcerated for 18 months. After being released, the Lane College graduate immediately started looking for work, and contacted the Urban League of Middle Tennessee to help her get a fresh start.
The affiliate provided her with a career counselor who helped update her resume and prepare her for job fairs. After attending a job fair, she was hired one the spot at a credit card company where she has been employed since.
The Urban League also helped her find her entrepreneurial arm and develop a second stream of income selling handmade jewelry at conferences. She recently enrolled in a Master’s program and received joint custody of her son.
