After Suffering From COVID-19 Karen Found Help From the Chicago Urban League

Karen J. lives in Chicago and has helps support her parents with her income. In November of 2019 she contracted COVID. After becoming extremely sick and unable to work for weeks, her life began to spiral downward and she fell behind in paying her rent and other bills.  Her father was retired and suffered from several major illnesses. Karen reached a point where she was unable to purchase food and assist her parents. She was referred to the Chicago Urban League by a friend. After her session with a Housing Rental Counselor, the counselor reached out to Karen's parents to help.  “The counselor assisted me and my father with applying for rental cash assistance and gave me additional referrals and instructions on how to apply for other resources. The Counselor assured me that she would do everything to make sure that we got the help that we needed, and she did just that! Not just for me but my parents.  She was a great help. I was able to catch up on my rent, other bills, and buy food. I cannot thank the Chicago Urban League enough."
