Helping Others is My Specialty

Jon Killion is proof that even after 27 years in the same field, life can be full of new and exciting possibilities. After a long career in Quality Control, Jon found a passion in experimenting with various software programs, and decided to jumpstart a new career in Information Technology.

Initially, he feared his lack of education in this industry and his age would be the biggest barriers he would face when searching for future employment opportunities. When he heard of the Urban Tech Jobs Program at the Indianapolis Urban League, Jon immediately signed up for training, knowing that earning a credential would enhance his chances of finding his dream job.

While in training, Jon recognized that he needed to be more effective with technology, so he earned his Internet Core Competency (IC3) Certification. This credential confirms basic computer literacy, including operating systems, hardware, software, and networks. Jon also was able to take part in an externship that allowed him to instruct IC3 classes and proctor exams. He was even offered contractual employment where he completed his externship and still works there on an as needed basis. Starting December 2020, Jon will be working as a Computer Tester while he is studying to earn his CompTIA A+ credential.
