Fort Wayne Urban League Named "Community Champs" by Local Channel

FORT WAYNE (Jan. 8, 2024) – This year, the Fort Wayne Urban League (Fort Wayne, IN) celebrates 104 years of service, continuing its mission to assist the African American community and underserved populations in and around the Summit City. Situated on South Hanna Street, the Urban League has expanded its programs over the last year, introducing initiatives like a two-week STEM Camp for Kids, Block Club Beautification Grants supporting eight south side blocks with $1,000 each, aid for new business owners, and the Senior Tekkie Program.

Charlene Green, a graduate of the Tekkie Program, highlights its impact on her life by providing social engagement, technological skills, and independence. The program not only taught her to operate a tablet but also fostered new connections outside her home. Green's experience underscores the diverse range of support and opportunities provided by the Urban League's initiatives.

Aisha Arrington, the President and CEO of Urban League, emphasizes the essential role of community support in their accomplishments during 2023.

“We wouldn’t have been able to make it in 2023 without community support,” she says. The city gave us money for our tutoring program. SEED Fort Wayne and Do It Best have helped us with our Block Club Beautification Projects and we’re continuing to build relationships so we can actually do the work of an Urban League. So, we are excited about 2024. I’m glad we got a break during the holidays but we’re ready for the work.”

The Urban League's impactful contributions to the community have earned recognition from Fox 55, which acknowledges the organization as one of its Community Champs for its dedication to enriching the lives of others.
