For five days in New Orleans, over 350 youth, chaperones, and staff gathered at Xavier University of Louisiana for National Urban League's 34th Annual Youth Leadership Summit. We built a village, putting WE before ME. Check out our program highlights!
Youth of the Village
The role of youth was at the center of the village. With expanded opportunities for youth to lead and deeply engage in all aspects of the Summit, we experienced some special moments:
- Youth designed and led sessions in our first-ever Choose Your Own YLS Adventure
- Young people led morning and evening plenary sessions
- Young people hosted and MC'd events
- Youth won cash, prizes and recognition

Program Highlights

We kicked off our time in New Orleans with a rousing celebration of New Orleans culture, music, history, and food at Mardi Gras World! We visited a variety of businesses across New Orleans and learned about their culture, mission, and vision for their work.
Our first ever crowd-sourced and Project Ready community-led YLS activation!
We got our creative juices flowing and worked collectively to flex our entrepreneurial prowess and pitch with flair!
One of the best ways to learn is through play. Whether one-on-one or teams, life is sweeter when you add ice cream!
We came. We saw. We learned. We built our network for postsecondary success!
We built and designed Bluetooth speakers. We engaged with robots and learned about how sound waves travel.
We had a five-way competition. It was hard-fought and Detroit took the Win!
