Sip & Savor Coffee House
CEO/Founder Trez Pugh III of Sip and Savor, a black-owned coffee shop with (4) cafes, recently opened its 5th store in the Living Fresh Market grocery store, the first to have an in-store coffee café that allows customers to enjoy coffee while shopping. This partnership makes Trez the first Black-owned coffee shop located within a grocery store in the City of Chicago. Committed to building community, Trez has hosted many Chicago Urban League events at his Bronzeville locations to bring important information, such as business development workshops and grant information sessions, to the Black business community.
ZBerry Frozen Yogurt and Treats
Zberry Frozen Yogurt and Treats is a definite success story! In 2017, after almost 7 years in her Hyde Park location, Zenzile Powell was forced to close her doors after her rent doubled, and she could not negotiate a better deal with the landlord of the building where her store was located.
Not to be deterred, Zenzile persevered and ultimately landed in a prime Chicago location – on the Beachfront in Chicago! Zenzile continues to learn and grow, continuously improving her business acumen and taking full advantage of ongoing coaching and business development resources through the Chicago Urban League’s Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
If being the first woman AND woman of color (and a member of the First Black Sorority – Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority!) to own a frozen yogurt shop in Hyde Park, CEO Zenzile Powell is now the first woman and woman of color to own a frozen yogurt shop on the beach of Lake Michigan on the Southside of Chicago! Creating jobs for young people and a cool cup or cone of frozen yogurt made Summertime Chi on the Southside a pleasant experience for beachgoers!
