Vice President of Budgets and Grants, National Urban League
Triva John Thomas serves as the Vice President of Budgets and Grants, where she has oversight of the $100 Million + Operating budget. In this capacity, Mrs. John Thomas’s job function includes developing and tracking revenue and expenditures; Single Audit requirements; Fiscal grant compliance and reporting; Federal grant compliance; Monitoring, training, and development of NUL and Affiliate staff of fiscal grant requirements. Before joining NUL’s Finance team in 2019, Mrs. John-Thomas served as Director, Fiscal Operations for NUL’s programs department for three years. In this capacity, she was responsible for overseeing the financial compliance management for Federal and Private grants, contracts, and NUL’s affiliate sub-grants. Before joining the National Urban League in 2012 as Fiscal Manager, Triva worked for Nonprofit Assistance Corporation as a Budget and Contract Analyst and oversaw an $18-million-dollar Federal Workforce Program. In addition, she worked at Structured Employment Economic Development Corporation as a Financial and Budget Analyst and managed Government and Private grants totaling $40 Million dollars. Triva served as an expert on Federal Government grant reporting, budget preparation and management, cash flow analysis, and cost allocation process development. Mrs. John Thomas holds an MBA in Strategic Management from Pace University; a BA in Business and HRM with Honors from the University of Westminster- London, UK. Triva sits on the Board of Directors of NUL’s Federal Credit Union as Chair of the Supervisory committee. Triva Also sits on the Finance and Development committees of Heights and Hills. When not at work, she enjoys traveling, restaurants, and outdoor activities. In addition, Triva and her husband run a small charity that offers support to students in the Caribbean.
