$15K Digital Tech Grant Boost Urban League
The Shenango Valley Urban League (Farrell, PA) is getting help teaching digital education to the people it serves.
The organization employs people who fulfill online orders for snack boxes. It teaches them job skills. It also received a $15,000 grant from Spectrum to teach digital education to people who are defined as homeless by HUD.
The money is supporting the TECH program, which stands for teaching e-commerce and computers to the homeless.
“Through the program, we want to have them become more job ready, likely be able to get some careers around the tech fields. These skills can help them be able to get some higher paying employment, which is the goal,” said Shenango Valley Urban League President and CEO, Dr. Erin Houston.

Chicago Urban League Gathers Experts to Define Reparations for Black Communities
The Chicago Urban League (Chicago, IL) gathered with thought leaders to discuss reparations, particularly R3 funding (Restore Reinvest and Renew), offering suggestions for all Black communities addressing the historical impacts of slavery and ongoing injustices, including those stemming from the war on drugs which are rooted in institutional racism.
The push for reparations has become a multi-generational movement within the African American community that advocates for justice and equity. It not only acknowledges the forced labor of our African ancestors but also seeks to restore support and dignity to the descendants who continue to face systemic inequities.

October Jobs Report: Slowing Inflation and Historically Low Unemployment Indicate the U.S. Has Arrived at a "Soft Landing"
OCTOBER JOBS REPORT: SLOWING INFLATION AND HISTORICALLY LOW UNEMPLOYMENT INDICATE THE U.S. HAS ARRIVED AT A “SOFT LANDING”
By Bernard E. Anderson, Ph.D.
Whitney M. Young, Jr. Professor Emeritus, The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, and Senior Economic Advisor, National Urban League
Job growth in October was hampered by two hurricanes and two major labor strikes, producing just 12,000 new jobs, but the economy continues to grow at a modest pace.
With inflation slowed to 2.41 percent and unemployment remaining historically low, many economists agree that the U.S. has achieved a “soft landing” – bringing inflation under control without triggering a recession.
The Irony Of Trump's Insult To Puerto Rico: His Own Administration's Spite And Incompetence Made Them Voters
Marc H. Morial
President and CEO
National Urban League
“We always knew that MAGA and Trump were racist. We always knew how they had felt about the island. But to say it so grotesquely, in particular to Puerto Ricans who are independent voters and on the fence, I think it has reverberated.” – Camille Rivera, board member of the national Puerto Rican advocacy group La Brega y Fuerza
As a result of the Trump administration’s botched response to Hurricane Maria in 2017, more than 200,000 Puerto Ricans have migrated to the mainland U.S.
His campaign team apparently forgot that they, and the millions of other Puerto Ricans living in the states, are American citizens who can vote.
