Urban League of Greater Madison Expands Training Academies
MADISON, WI – The people of Madison will now have more opportunities for career training.
With the help of a $250,000 grant from the Ascendium Education Group, the Urban League of Greater Madison (Madison, WI) is now expanding its CDL and solar installation training programs. The grant will allow for the Urban League to train over 45 CDL drivers within the next two years. They were only able to train two to four people per year previously.
In a statement announcing the grant, Ascendium Vice President Amy Kerwin said, “We’ve long admired the Urban League of Greater Madison’s efforts to increase socioeconomic mobility in our community. We’re pleased to be able to contribute resources that help them expand access to such opportunities.”
“Employers across the region are facing a shortage of CDL drivers for existing jobs,” said Dr. Ruben Anthony Jr., President and CEO of the Urban League. “These funds from Ascendium will help us serve as a bridge between employers and job seekers and ensure equitable access to these good careers."
By 2024, the Urban League of Greater Madison hopes to find new or better jobs for at least 100 adults.
