National Urban League President Congratulates New Chairwoman of the Federal Communications Commission
Washington, D.C. (December 8, 2021) – Today, National Urban League President and CEO Marc H. Morial issued the following statement in response to the Senate’s confirmation of Jessica Rosenworcel for another term to the Federal Communications Commission, in which she will continue her historic service as the nation’s first woman Chair.
“We are pleased that the Senate swiftly confirmed Chair Jessica Rosenworcel’s nomination for another term on the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). We believe her dedication and unwavering commitment to bridging the digital divide has benefitted communities of color and underserved communities and remains a top priority of National Urban League’s.
“As our nation grappled with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, Chair Rosenworcel worked to effectively expand broadband and device access for families and small businesses, including implementing the Emergency Broadband Benefit and preparing for a transition to the new Affordability Connectivity Program. She has prioritized civil rights issues including bridging the homework gap for school-aged children, increasing employee and ownership diversity in the technology and telecommunications industries, and reducing high phone rates and charges for incarcerated individuals and increasing access to telehealth through FCC’s Connected Care Pilot Program.
“I believe Chair Rosenworcel will continue to make important progress towards digital equity and economic empowerment, and I look forward to working with her on these important issues.”
