Jamilah Mottley Brown

Account Manager, Porter Novelli

Known for being kind, creative, and thoughtful, Jamilah Mottley Brown is passionate about building powerful narratives that positively impacts organizations serving members of historically marginalized and underserved communities.

As the Public Information Officer for the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice (IDJJ), she managed the department’s brand development and strategic communications plan. Most notably, she led the publicizing of the department’s reform efforts, including the statewide 21st Century Illinois Transformation Model initiative. In close partnership with the Pritzker Administration and the Justice, Equity, and Opportunity (JEO) Initiative, Jamilah raised awareness of the new transformation model to a national audience and created the key messaging for leading state officials. She also provided intensive support with change communications during the COVID-19 pandemic; working to keep justice-involved individuals, families, and stakeholders abreast of the changing safety protocols and mitigation efforts.

Prior to her role at IDJJ, Jamilah created and supported strategic initiatives for a variety of education-reform organizations. She began her career in Public Relations as a Junior Associate at The Caraway Group, where she supported the unveiling of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Jamilah is a native Chicagoan and received a B.A. in English from Purdue University. In her spare time, she loves to travel, spend time with her family, and pursue a variety of creative outlets.
