Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis Helps Flood Victims
ST. LOUIS - In response to the torrential downpours that has affected the area, the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis (St. Louis, MO) has partnered with the city of St. Louis to help with flood relief.
The Mayor of St. Louis Tishaura Jones held a news conference on Saturday, July 30th to help update the city on relief efforts. She announced that the city would be partnering with several local non-profits in assisting St. Louis residents.
Mobile command centers are being stationed in the Urban League’s parking lot, along with also being in the Ellendale and Kingsway West neighborhoods. The centers will provide residents with emergency resources for relief.
Lorain County Urban League Hosts Equal Opportunity Day
ELYRIA – The Lorain County Urban League (Elyria, OH) hosted its Equal Opportunity Day Luncheon on July 14th, with a theme of “Celebrating Black Excellence in Healthcare.”
Held at the Lorain County Community College’s Spitzer Center, the Urban League gave out awards “to individuals that embody the Urban League’s mission to empower African American and underserved individuals in our community,” according to the Urban League.
Businesswomen Leaves $4 Million Gift to Columbus Urban League
COLUMBUS – The Columbus Urban League (Columbus, OH), along with the Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, have just received huge gifts.
Former Columbus Fair Auto Auction owner Alexis Jacobs, who passed away on June 3rd, bequeathed the organizations $4 million in unrestricted funds to the two organizations.
When President and CEO of the Urban League Stephanie Hightower heard the news, “I just started bawling.”
“You never know what kind of impact you’re having on someone.”

Applications for the Congressional Advocacy Program 2023 Cohort are Due October 16th!
The National Urban League Washington Bureau is pleased to announce that applications are now open for the 2023-2024 Cohort of the NUL Congressional Advocacy Program!
The Congressional Advocacy Program is a competitive program that gives leaders the opportunity to expand their knowledge of congressional and grassroots engagement and network with policymakers, thought leaders, and political influencers, while developing core leadership competencies to become effective catalysts for change in their communities and respective professions.
This program will include virtual workshops with guest speakers as well as curated activities designed to expose students to current topics in advocacy from an insider perspective. The program culminates with the cohort designing, presenting, and executing a final Capstone project applying concepts learned throughout the program to tackle a real-world advocacy issue.
