Welton Pride

Manager, Economic and Housing Policy, Washington Bureau, National Urban League
Welton Pride serves as the National Urban League’s Washington Bureau as Economic and Housing Policy Manager. He most recently served in the Biden-Harris Administration at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) as Special Advisor to the Deputy Secretary. Prior to his role in the administration, Welton gained diverse experience in economic and housing policy. He has held positions as a Fellow with the Affordable Housing Tax Credit Coalition (AHTCC), a Real Estate Development Associate at Pillars Development, an AmeriCorps VISTA Leader with HUD’s Nashville Promise Zone, a Graduate Intern with Enterprise Community Partners’ Solutions team, and a Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF) Intern on Capitol Hill. As a Nashville native, Welton has witnessed the effects of rapid city growth firsthand—a unique perspective that continues to fuel his commitment to affordable housing and equitable economic development. He earned his Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, majoring in Marketing with a collateral in Entrepreneurship and a minor in Africana Studies. He later received his Master’s of Education (M.Ed) in Community Development and Action from Vanderbilt University. Welton is a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. Outside of work, he enjoys staying active, drawing, reading, watching sports, listening to music, and traveling.
