Councilman Carlos J. Clanton

Elected in 2025, Councilman Carlos J. Clanton represents Superward 7 on the Norfolk City Council. A proud native of Norfolk, he was raised in the Lambert’s Point and Park Place communities. Councilman Clanton holds a Bachelor of Science in Training with a Minor in Leadership from Old Dominion University and is completing his Master of Public Administration. He previously made history as the youngest and first African American Director of the Norfolk Division of the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce. He served on the Norfolk City School Board, with a focus on educational equity. An active civic and community leader, he serves on multiple boards and commissions, including the Mayor’s Housing Commission and VisitNorfolk. A longtime performer with the Virginia Opera and member of New Calvary Baptist Church, he believes, “Leadership is about listening, serving, and empowering others to reach their full potential.”
