Alex Rias
Senior Director for Equitable Justice, National Urban League
Alex Rias is a lawyer, speaker, advocate, and policy strategist. He serves as Senior Director for Equitable Justice at the National Urban League, focusing on community empowerment through public policy, advocacy, and civic engagement. Alex’s portfolio at the League includes voting rights and access, criminal justice reform, combating gun violence, extremism and hate, the equitable legalization of marijuana, as well as state and local legislative affairs. Previously, Alex served as an Assistant District Attorney in the felony Trial Division for the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office in New York. He served as a Deputy Chief of Staff and Legislative and Budget Director for the New York City Council, the Executive Director of the Black, Latino, and Asian Caucus of the New York City Council, and worked as policy staff for former Governor David A. Paterson in the New York State Governor’s Executive Chamber. He holds a Juris Doctor from Cardozo School of Law and is licensed to practice law in New York, earned a master’s degree in Public Administration from the Rockefeller College of Public Affairs, and a bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
