Austin Area Urban League Hosts Panel on Housing Insecurity

AUSTIN – The Austin Area Urban League (Austin, TX) is hoping to raise awareness on housing insecurity.

At an Earth Day event at Huston-Tillotson University, the Urban League hosted a panel to discuss homelessness, with representatives from all over the city participating.

The Urban League’s Yasmine Smith said, “While we’re talking about the being good stewards of the earth, let’s look at our neighbors who are directly more impacted by our choices.” She also commented how it’s vital to talk about the difficulties those who face with housing insecurity deal with because of environmental impact.

At the panel, one of those very people who are facing housing insecurity, Luke Curry, commented about the misconceptions about homelessness.

The Urgency of Now: Affiliate Newswire Interview with Nancy Flake Johnson

On Tuesday, April 12th, the National Urban League (NUL) released the “State of Black America” report in Atlanta, Georgia. It was the first time the Urban League held this event away from the legislative halls of Washington, D.C. Instead, the Urban League held the event at Clark Atlanta University, an HBCU in the middle of what many would say is the heart of the civil rights movement, Atlanta, Georgia. Today, the state of Georgia lies at the hub of a wave of voter suppression laws, impeding the right to vote for many minority communities.
