On Tuesday, November 26 from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m., the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis (St. Louis, MO) will distribute nearly 2,000 free turkeys to needy area residents thanks to the support of TIAA Bank and Schnucks Supermarkets.

“We are very thankful to TIAA Bank for agreeing to support the Turkey Giveaway, which has helped thousands of needy families to have Thanksgiving Dinner over the years,” said Michael P. McMillan, president and CEO of the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis. 

“TIAA Bank is proud to support the communities in which we work and live,” said Joseph Hernandez, TIAA Bank senior vice president and CRA officer. “The Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis is making a difference in so many lives and we’re honored to team up to make an even bigger impact.”

The Young Professionals Network of the Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts (Boston, MA) hosted their 8th Annual Leadership Development Conference on Saturday. The conference aims to equip Boston’s next generation of business professionals of color with the leadership, financial and personal skills they need to create an enduring legacy of success in their careers.

Kristen Halbert, acting president of YPN-ULEM, said the conference was designed specifically to address professional development among young people of color, a niche she said is lacking in Boston’s overall discussion of business.

A recent "60 Minutes" segment covered how JPMorgan views extending credit to black entrepreneurs.

Apparently, the first thing that springs to mind when Dimon wants to lend money to black people in Detroit is "philanthropy." To that end, JPMorgan extended not only credit but educational and informational resources for budding entrepreneurs.

NEW YORK (November 19, 2019) -- National Urban League President and CEO Marc H. Morial urged the Democratic candidates for President participating in tomorrow’s debate to address the issues of housing affordability, educational equity and voter suppression.

“Housing affordability in the United States is in crisis.  Public schools are more segregated than any time since Brown v. Board of Education. And the voting rights of Black and Brown Americans are under constant siege from opponents of democracy. Yet the views of the candidates for President are largely unknown to communities of color on these issues,” Morial wrote in a letter to the candidates.  “Tomorrow when you take the stage for the Democratic presidential debate in Atlanta, I hope you will fill this glaring void in our national discourse.”

“Across the nation, families are struggling with homelessness and housing insecurity. We need to treat the affordable housing shortage like the crisis that it is. A pivotal moment in the 2020 Democratic primary race that happened on Wednesday may have escaped notice by much of the country. For the first time since the debates began – a total of six nights of debates – the candidates finally were asked a question about the housing crisis. 

I was so concerned about the lack of public discussion around this critical issue facing the nation that I sent a letter to the candidates, urging them to share their plans.
