Veteran fundraiser Chandra Y. Anderson is the Senior Vice President of Development for the National Urban League. Ms. Anderson joined the National Urban League with 16 years of fundraising experience, in July 2005.
Most recently, Ms. Anderson was the Senior Vice President of Resource Development for Apollo Theater Foundation, Inc. where she was responsible for the oversight of the $65 million capital campaign and instituting the Apollo's first annual campaign since the organization became a not-for-profit in 1991. Prior to working for the Apollo, she was the SVP of Development for the United Way of New York City. She was with the United Way for 10 years and was responsible for raising nearly $350 million in the annual campaign and was responsible for fundraising administration and donor relations for the September 11th Fund which raised nearly $500 million. During her tenure, United Way of New York City achieved double-digit growth in the local campaign for the first time in history for two consecutive years.
Ms. Anderson is a graduate of the Indiana University Center on Philanthropy, the Fund Raising School and the University of North Texas.
She serves on the board of directors of CityKids Foundation, Ron K. Brown's Evidence, and Women in Development, and is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.
Ms. Anderson has years of experience as a fundraising instructor. Her expertise ranges from fundraising strategy and workplace campaigns, to major gifts solicitation. Currently, her focus is on strengthening organizations in the African-American communities. She believes there is a great need to build the fundraising knowledge and capacity of organizations to serve at-risk communities - in the community.
