  • BEEP SEMINARS
  • The Accredited Lecture Series (ALS) is the backbone of the BEEP program. A series of lectures taught over the course of a semester by visiting black professionals (Visiting Professors), each week a different executive or professional lectures for two consecutive days in a subject course related to his or her area of expertise. The Accredited Lecture Series gives students substantial up-to-date insight on how textbook theory is applied by the practitioners in their fields. Participating students receive credits for the semester-long seminar.

    The Career Awareness and Planning Seminar (CAPS) was created to support the efforts of the college faculty and placement directors at participating BEEP schools. CAPS prepares students for the transition from academia to the world of work via a two-day seminar comprised of career-planning exercises, workshops, counseling and lectures. The program works with students to assess how prepared they are for their future careers, helps chart career paths, review resume preparation, and instructs students on how to develop good interview skills. CAPS includes role-playing exercises and mock interviews that are videotaped and later reviewed for analysis of strengths and weaknesses.

    CAPS OBJECTIVES:

    • Acquaint college students with career path planning
    • Help students assess their personal interests, skills and abilities;
    • Show students how to research and explore career possibilities;
    • Apprise students of high-paying, high-skilled and high-tech jobs;
    • Make students aware of the benefits of graduate study;
    • Instruct students in the art of corporate survival;
    • Helps students write and prepare a quality resume;
    • Increase students' capabilities to have effective job interviews; and
    • Instruct students about the obvious, as well as the subtle details of proper office attire.

    SPECIAL BUSINESS SEMINAR (SBS)

    One of a set of seminars offered throughout the course of the semester in the BEEP program. SBS focuses on social and economic issues and topical events that affect business, industry and government. The format may differ from one campus to another.

    INNOVATIONS FOR WOMEN (IFW)

    Women comprise 46.5% of today's workforce, represent 50.5% of managerial and professional specialty professions, and own and operate 1 of every 3 firms in the U.s. To better equip female college students for the increased roles and contributions of women in the workplace, IFW partners with a team of Black female executives and professionals who instruct female students on issues such as: how to successfully navigate the workplace; breaking through the glass ceiling; how to be a successful manager; and industry trends. Using a mini-conference format the female executives give straightforward advice on how best to prep for the marketplace and how to balance professional obligations with personal lifestyles.
