National Urban League Earns Better Business Bureau's Wise-Giving Designation
New York, N.Y. - March 22, 2007 - The Better Business Bureau (BBB) Wise Giving Alliance has given the National Urban League its seal of approval for meeting its so-called Standards for Charity Accountability, which go beyond those of government regulators.
"National charities that display the BBB Wise Giving Alliance seal can do so with pride," says Art Taylor, the alliance's president and CEO. "Not only are they attesting to their organizations' adherence to sound standards, they are helping to increase donor confidence and strengthen public trust in giving."
To earn the opportunity to display the seal, the Urban League underwent a rigorous and comprehensive evaluation by the alliance, the nation's most experienced and foremost charity evaluator. It involved intense scrutiny not only of the Urban League's finances but also of its governance, effectiveness, solicitations and informational materials.
"It is truly an honor to have received such a distinction," said National Urban League President and CEO Marc Morial. "It shows to the philanthropic world that the National Urban League is a place where donors' dollars are put to use in the most efficient, accountable, ethical manner possible."
The Urban League joins the ranks of over 150 other nonprofit organizations, including the Ronald McDonald House Charities, Save the Children and the Nature Conservancy, who've met the alliance's standards.
