National Urban League President Marc Morial Responds To Resignation Of NAACP President Bruce Gordon

New York, NY - March 04, 2007 - Marc H. Morial, President and CEO of the National Urban League issued the following statement regarding the resignation by fellow civil rights leader, President Bruce Gordon of the NAACP:

"I enjoyed the opportunity to work closely with NAACP President Bruce Gordon on several critical issues such as the passage of the 2006 Voting Rights Act and protecting the rights of Hurricane Katrina victims. I was surprised and disappointed to learn about his decision to leave the NAACP. Bruce Gordon is a highly competent and experienced leader whose contributions and voice will be missed.

The historic relationship between the National Urban League and the NAACP will continue as the NAACP enters a period of transition in its leadership. The problems facing Black America are acute and urgent. The National Urban League and our partners in the civil rights community will continue to concentrate on closing the disparities in jobs, education and health that still exist across this nation."
