NATIONAL URBAN LEAGUE YOUTH SUMMIT HOSTS TERRIE WILLIAMS, AUTHOR OF "STAY STRONG: SIMPLE LIFE LESSONS FOR TEENS."
New York, NY, July 19, 2001The National Urban League announced today that during its 2001 Annual NULITES Youth Summit, Terrie Williams, noted public relations guru and author of the recently released book, Stay Strong: Simple Life Lessons For Teens, will host the "Achievement Matters" rally on Sunday July 29, 2001, from 12:00 PM -1:30 PM, at the Washington DC Convention Center.
Williams will address how celebrities public personas and negative media images of African Americans affect young peoples attitudes about success and achievement.
The rally, called, "Image Isnt Everything, Create Your Own: Simple Life Lessons for Teens," is part of the Leagues Annual NULITES Youth Summit, which runs in conjunction with the National Urban Leagues Annual Conference.
The Summit hosts up to 500 young people, ages 14 to 19, and their chaperons in an environment designed to engage them with educational, social and other recreational activities geared toward the critical issues facing todays youth. The youths are all members of local National Urban League NULITES chapters nationwide.
This years Summit theme, developed by NULITERS from Alexandria, VA, Baltimore, MD, Washington, DC, and Wilmington, DE, is Responsibility: Get Up! Get Out! And Do Something! Catholic University Of America is providing housing for the Summit, scheduled for July 26 to July 30.
Other events include a presentation called Success in the Classroom, Success in the World, by Howard University representatives on Saturday, July 28, from 9:15 AM to 9:45 AM at Howard, and a NULITES awards dinner on Friday, July 27 from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM at the Renaissance Washington DC Hotel.
